When life gives you lemons, make a lemon dress – SOI Betty

When life gives you lemons, make a lemon dress – SOI Betty

I don’t exactly know when my obsession with the idea of a lemon dress started. I think I must have seen so many gorgeous lemon-inspired garments in the sewing community. Naturally, when my sister-in-law and I decided to go to Sicily on holiday, I was determined to make THAT dress. The fabric This started with finding the right fabric. Seeing as lemon prints are so popular in the sewing community I didn’t think this would be that difficult. Well, I was wrong. The fabric shops in Rotterdam didn’t have any fabric with lemons on it. The weekly market wasn’t selling

That’s a wrap! – The SOI Meredith dress

When the Sew Over It Meredith dress came out a month or so ago, I wasn’t enthusiastic straight away. As an avid SOI fangirl, I pretty much have all their patterns. Including the Ultimate Wrap Dress, which looks pretty much like the Meredith. Plus, I had just made an Eve dress for both my mum and me, so another wrap dress wasn’t something that should have bumped to the top of my list. But then I saw all of the wonderful garments the SOI Pattern Insiders made… They looked so great and flattering, and everyone who also made the Ultimate

The Alate? Kalex? – Kate and Alex shirt mash-up

Those who know me rarely see me in anything but black, grey or blue clothes. I know those colours work on me, but it can get a bit boring. Time for some change! Read on for more on my shirt mash-up. I really love the “on trend” mustard/ocker colour on other people. So, after my sister-in-law convinced me I could pull it of too, I bought this almost golden peachskin with blue and white spots. I immediately knew I wanted a shirt out of it, but I’m a bit stuck in the Sew Over It universe… An Alex shirt from

Easter Outfit – Erin Skirt & Molly Top

Spring is in the air! And after making a couple of things for other people I wanted a new outfit for Easter brunch with my parents and grandmother. We were going to the Euromast, which gives a great backdrop! šŸ™‚ Erin Skirt I used to hate denim skirts. I thought they looked old fashioned and too conservative for my tastes. But, as always, things change! And especially after seeing gorgeous outfits on Instagram, I HAD to have one of course šŸ˜… I bought some denim about a year ago to make the Closet Case Ginger jeans, but I never got

Wishing I could wear a ballgown to work

Wishing I could wear a ballgown to work

If money wasn’t an issue and you could wear one designer, who would it be? For me it would be (vintage) Dior, hands down. The silhouettes, the colour schemes, the eleganceā€¦ The more I sew, the more Iā€™m attracted to Dior. I was kind of bummed I missed the exhibition when it was in Paris two years ago. Turns out I didnā€™t have to be, as it came to my favourite city in the whole world at the Victoria & Albert Museum!

Fangirling at the Knit&Stitch

Fangirling at the Knit&Stitch

Ever since I ā€œdiscoveredā€ the (English) sewing community, and all the wonderful things that come with it, Iā€™ve wanted to go to the Knitting & Stitching show and meet the amazing people in the community. We absolutely do have fabric markets in Holland, but they donā€™t have the same atmosphere as I imagined the Knit & Stitch has. If I want to browse at a stall at home, I always have to elbow my way through. Plus, the public being a bit older, itā€™s not always easy to find fabrics that I like.
